Here is the Raleigh Coin Club's annual wooden nickel that we distribute to promote our Money Expo.

The obverse of this year's design features Danial Carr's proposed design for the 2001 North Carolina Statehood Quarter. Unfortunately for him, it was not selected. Fortunately for the Raleigh Coin Club, Mr. Carr graciously allowed us to use his drawing for our annual wood.

A really fun show/sale with no admission fee and no parking fee at a nice venue. The educational talks are always interesting.

If you're lucky you may even meet the man himself. Look for the guy lugging around all the commems...

The Raleigh club will again be sponsoring an Education Raffle at the Expo. All raffle proceeds go to supporting the club's young collector programs and educational outreach initiatives.

We've put together another nice group of classic US numismatic coins for the top prizes.

Tickets are $5 a piece and six for $25.

Here are this year's prizes:

The Expo is now just four days away!

You can visit the Raleigh Coin Club web site at www.RaleighCoinClub.org for all of the latest Expo information, including:

- Dealer list (160+ tables)

- Seminar schedule - Noted numismatic author Roger W. Burdette is the "Featured Speaker" and will be discussing the origins of the US Peace dollar.

- Descriptions of the 50+ cases of Educational Exhibits - The "Featured Exhibit" is on Confederate currency during the Civil War.

- Sir Walter Raleigh will be walking the bourse on Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm. He'll be sharing stories and handing out custom-printed cards with his portrait and info on the 1937 Roanoke half dollar.

- The Kid's Zone will be packed with games and activities for young collectors - they can earn free coin prizes!

Let me know if you are planning on coming - it would be nice to meet face-to-face!

From past experience, ~85-90% of our dealers stay through Sunday, so the bourse remains reasonably full (at least through about 1:00-1:30pm).

The only thing "missing" from the show on Sunday is our educational seminar series - programs are given on Friday and Saturday but not Sunday. All other features remain in place on Sunday.
