Well this is the second one that has become faulty.

I use this camera with a USB cable to my computer, and use the Canon software and liveview. It is an excellent way of taking clear and detailed photos of coins. On my first Canon EOS 450D, after a month or so, the USB cable stopped responding to the camera. At first, I thought it may be the USB cable, so I bought a new one. No good, it was the port on the camera that was at fault. I can only assume that gravity had slowly over time bent the inside port so that it didn't function any longer.

I sold this camera and bought the same one again, and ALAS it has just happened again!! Has anyone else had this happen to them? Is it just a poorly designed port on the camera?

Is there a newer version of this camera that I can do liveview on my computer over bluetooth or internet? I'm worried about buying the same camera again, only for this to happen again!

Thanks for listening :)

WiFi connection w/ live view is a new, very high-end feature.

You would need to step up to at least a T6 (~$449)

https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/...era-connect/

The problem is that the mounting of the usb jack in the body has only a couple small solder lugs - it's not designed for large #s of insertions/deletions and won't take much force in any direction.

Suggest you look into supporting the USB cable - some kind of "strain relief" setup.

Thanks for the reply,

I've no choice but to buy a new one again. I wonder if its from plugging it in and out. Perhaps it wouldn't go faulty if I kept the cable plugged in at all times?

The same thing happened to my T2i, except that the USB connection started having intermittent problems, rather than a complete failure. It was gradually getting worse, so I replaced the camera. I'm trying to keep the new one plugged in constantly.

Well... there are some YouTube videos on disassembling the camera and others on reparing USB for other models...

I have had my connection plugged in for years without any problem. If I had to unplug the connection, I would unplug from the computer. After reading this thread, I definitely will not unplug from the camera. Ham.
