I haven't been schooled by the more experienced people in a while, so here's an inquiry for you. A local auctioneer has a lot of no date Standing Liberty quarters. I haven't seen the coins in hand, and they only have obverse images, but I did spot one Type 1. I did my research, and I'm pretty sure it's a 1917 -- the odds also suggest it wouldn't be the rare 1916 -- but I'd appreciate a set of eyes. Apologies for the image quality, but it's the best they've got.

IIRC, visible boxes at 4h and 8h point to 1917.

Cool to find Druu - I read somewhere on CCF about how someone can get the date to appear using "nick-a-date" but to me then the coin is ruined. But if you can't read the date then hard decision - always worth silver content if nothing else.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

January, could you elaborate? Do you mean the area below IN GOD WE TRUST? The reference I used last night was: (052) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed .com/identify1916standingquarter.html I couldn't use the drapery due to the condition of the coin, so the curve of the drapery to the left of Liberty's foot was my sole pick up point.

Mark, if everyone bids on this like junk, I hope to get the lot for around spot. No need to chemically treat it to try to raise a date when the die markers are enough to make a determination! Looking like a PO1 lowball, huh?

It is a 1917 T1. Does not have any of the pick up points of a 1916. armband, drapery and foot to pedestal all indicate 1917, the other areas are to blurry.

Yes - IIRC the rectangles there are a lot deeper on 1917 than on 1916, so if it's that worn and the rectangles are still clear, it's an 1917.

I might be misremembering, however.
