Apologies if the grading forum would be a better place for this topic - mods, please feel free to move it there if you so wish!

I had a recent whim to pick up a 1966 round 50 cent to throw in my general silver collection, and I managed to get one along with two 1969 and two 1970 50 cent coins for the price I should have paid for it alone. Anyway, both the 1969 and the 1970 coins seem to be in really good condition (relative to the cost and the bulk buy nature of the purchase!) and I was glad to find out that the 1969 is a bit of a key date for the denomination. And, having got two each of the 69 and 70 I may well flip one of each so that I potentially got the three keepers for nothing...

However, and here's the question, being a threepence collector I've never really looked to keep any larger coins, and I'm not sure that my eye is in yet to identify which ones would be higher quality - for instance, in the two uploaded images below, in a smaller coin the bag scruffs on one coin would probably dominate enough to annoy me, while on these larger coins the small portrait marks on the other coin seem to detract more.

Which of these two coins would you keep? Which do you think is the better grade? Any comments along with your thoughts would be great, all the better to learn from :)

I'd say the top one, it looks the nicest to me.

Considering their low face value, I'd probably keep both. Photos can be deceiving, so just because the top coin looks best in the photo doesn't necessarily mean that it looks best overall. Ask yourself which coin you'd prefer if you were offered one by a dealer. That is the one you should keep.

Neither of the coins are Uncirculated or particularly high grade so we are not talking Sheep Stations here so why not just keep both of them

Thanks for the feedback all, all appreciated :)

I think if I'd ended up with these as coins I actively collected the magpie in me would take over and I'd end up keeping them all - however, there's something nice about getting a piece of bullion for bullion price, and then being able to pass on one of the extras that came with it to potentially pay for the whole package! Plus, I get to keep some unexpected bonus coins :)

I love the weight and generally heft of these 50c coins, so I may well end up keeping my eye out for more in the future!
