I've seen a number of nicely toned Indian Head cent proofs, but how common is toning in business strike? Not the usual browning of the copper or those spots that show up, but actual colors? I saw a couple rather spectacular toners at the Denver Coin Expo, and wondered. Any IHC experts/collectors out there?

I would believe what Raymo52 says. I think he was around earlier today.

Anything other than proofs I shy away from. I'm just not a fan of toned business strikes as they're usually man made. I've seen some nice ones that Redraider has acquired .

Here are a few that I just got back from PCGS....The 1903 looks much more green in hand. Its really rare to see naturally toned green copper. All of these coins were bought raw and all were under $50. I had a full set of nicely toned coins at one point but sold off that collection. Starting to get back into it (slowly). I regret selling the 1877 as well as a few of the others. I still have an 1870 in MS66BN CAC PS (Pop 1/0) that has some nice green blue toning on it.

Uncirculated regular issue IHCs often show dramatic colors after years of storage in old albums and kraft envelopes. Colors can range from purples to light greens to blues to yellows.
