I've recently purchased several coin rolls that appear to be straight from the mint and look perfect except for what looks like water stains. The stains look like the spots left on your dishes after a cycle in the dishwasher. I assume this is a result of a similar operation at the mint. I tried to wipe them off but the stains remain. Do these stains affect the value of a coin or count against it when it's being graded?

They are water spots and you can not remove them without damaging the coin. As to value,I think it lowers the eye appeal and to me the value as well.

The worst is when the milk spots show up after grading! I've heard many stories of ASEs and Maple Leafs developing them after they have already been slabbed! Not every 70 is the same!
Rest in Peace
