OK, I'll be the fool who will ask. Is it my eyes, my monitor, or the photography - this looks like a copper cent.

I believe the toning or lighting is causing that brownish look.

Because of the mushiness around the letters and wheat stalks (reverse) I wonder if this is not a replated set of 43's. If they are quite shiny and reflective, they are and are worth little in collector value, are considered damaged, not original. If you got this in a 3-hole snap case, they probably are replated. Your pics are blurry and can't really tell.

What bothers me is that the cent looks rather shiny.
Reprocessed?
Original surfaces tend to be dull (matte).

Obviously not a mint-state coin, so apparently plated in some fashion.

Reprocessed. Look for an original set...you'll be much happier in the long run.
