Hi, If you had a COMPLETE set of the 2008 Bald Eagle it would require a total of 6 coins (3 MS & 3 PF)...does anyone know if this is the largest Comm. sets in the Comm. series ?

regards,
Leighton

It is the largest set in a WHILE (1995 was the last 6 coin set a Civil War Collection)

BUT

Actually the largest Modern Comm set was the 95/96 Olympic issue..The TOTAL set was 32 coins, consisting of 4-8 coin sets

8 one dollar BU coins
8 one dollar proof coins
8 one half dollar BU coins
8 one half dollar proof coins

2008 Bald Eagle- 6 coins
2003 First Flight- 6 coins
2001 Capitol Visitor Center- 6 coins
1996 Olympics- way too many
1995 Civil War Battlefields- 6 coins
1994 World Cup Tournament- 6 coins
1993 WWII- 6 coins
1993 Bill of Rights- 6 coins
1992 Christopher Columbus- 6 coins
1992 Olympics- 6 coins
1991 Mount Rushmore- 6 coins
1989 Congress Bicentennial- 6 coins
1986 Statue of Liberty- 6 coin
1984 Olympics- 6 coins

As you can see there is a trend here. When the commem program restarted in the 80s, six coin sets were only issued occasionally. They really ramped up in the 90s, culminating with the excessive coinage of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and that turned many people off from the commem programs. The big programs were cut back and the Bald Eagle set is only the third six coin set since 1996.

What I SHOULD have said is the 6 coin 1995 Civil War Comm is the last 6 coin Comm set ISSUED as a 6 coin set option!

There were more recent issues with 6 coins but NONE were issued as a 6 coin SET!

Also the 95/96 Olympic 32 coin set was ISSUED as 8/8/8/8 or 32 coin SETS!
