Hi guys, I had started a topic on this coin I inherited and apparently it is a genuine.( I am really happy ) I wanted to know what your Grade opinions are on it. I think it can make VF20. It has an old cleaning that shouldn't affect the grade since it doesn't appear harsh. Once authenticated it will be a very valuable coin.

It it's authentic they will probably grade it f-15.

@Rarefindsrus I'm here to learn, so I will throw in my Two Cents. It's my opinion that the coin does not look genuine, and the thread above that you mentioned does not authenticate your coin. I'm sure the experts will comment, but did you read the thread recommended by Earle42? Quote:Check out this thread. If it's counterfeit, then it's an awfully scary one. The Chinese counterfeiters are honing their skills everyday and nothing surprises me.
Send it to ANACS for a quick and cheap authentication. If it comes back genuine then you can breath a little easier and then send it to either PCGS or NGC for a haute taute holder.

After looking at this I was going to say the following about the coin - "This does not look authentic, if you look at the buds on the reverse they are quite different. On the bottom right side the real coin has two buds on the top side but you image only has one. All of the other buds are off a little as well. I also count 17 buds on your coin but a real one is showing as 19! On the obverse, the end of the curls on the head are all a little off as well. They don't curl as much as a real coin. The first star touches the bottom curl but yours does not. I would have to say that this is a fake." I then did a little research and now I am not too sure. I have seen graded dollars that match my findings but I also see many graded that look very similar to your coin. I guess I need to do more research and learn much more about the Flowing Hair dollars.

Give the post 24 hours for nss-52 to chime in. He does a lot of great work in the counterfeit reporting section of this website. I'm leaning towards authentic but he spots out counterfeits with laserlike precision.

@Coconutjoe Take another look at the pics you posted. Do all of the genuine examples match exactly? No. Making dies then was not what it is now or has been for over 100 years. As in the other topic about this coin, my vote is for genuine. I hope I'm right.  Also, I think it's VG-10.

I cant believe that some people thought this wasn't authentic. How in the world can you "fake" that wear pattern?
