Hello All

I'd like your thoughts on this '27 Quarter Eagle. It's in my Dansco as it was something I inherited from my father. I'm having a hard time convincing myself of a grade for this series even with Photograde helping me out... Apologies for the quality of the images but best I can do with my set-up... Thanks for any and all input! I'll also be posting a $5 Eagle for opinions...

I agree that AU50 or 53 sounds like a fair grade.

AU-53 but better photos would be needed to determine authenticity.
Rest in Peace

That is a tough one. From those photos I'd say AU-50. But as IndianGoldEagle made mention of, better photos (including edge) would be helpful. PCGS and NGC both acknowledge that this type is one of the most frequently submitted counterfeits.

I'll go AU-55 but these colors certainly don't look right.

Thanks for the replies all!! I was thinking low AU with most likely details on the half and possible details on the quarters so my skill was not too bad perhaps. On the authenticity I find it interesting. I have had possession of these for 30 years and am reasonabley sure my dad had possession for another 25 or so. Not to say they couldn't have been faked before that. I have weighed them on a gun powder scale (most accurate I have for small stuff supposedly to a tenth of a grain) and when converted to Grams the quarter eagle was 4.17 and the half was 8.34 so that seemed reasonable to my novice knowledge considering wear. Anyway all Interesting to me. And that 300kb limit on pics is killing me. I have a Nikon 5300 and had to take about 20 pics each and shrink them to just get these. Catch 22 for me. I want to leave them where they are if authentic since they came from my dad. But want to know they are authentic. On the other hand they are only worth melt or very slightly above so not worth sending in for grading... thanks again!

In the 1960's and 1970's Lebanese gold smiths counterfeited many US and world gold coins. They were sold on the open market as a way to buy gold bullion. They were made of gold, but they were counterfeit coins. So having one for 30 years or so does not guarantee genuine.
