Currently $156.50

I do not get it. It has absolutely nothing historically to do with the Bruno Hauptmann Lindbergh baby kidnapping trial.

It is just a 1934 Lincoln Cent with an engraved reverse.
It is not even well done in my opinion.

It appears to be an encasement, not an engraved reverse.

Edit: yep, I was correct http://goccf.com/t/230559

Yes, I see what you mean.

If it is a cased coin that was given out in 1934 at the trial, it may have some collector value.
The description does not mention it being encased or being from that era.
I would have to have knowledge of this item, or some certification that it is original to bid on it.

It is what is called a shell cent. What you see on the reverse is a thin embossed shell. The cent is then places inside the shell and the edge is rolled slightly to crimp the edge of the shell to the cent. They Were sold at the trial and do have a historical connection. I've wanted one for some time, but don't have the free cash right now to go after this one. The price it is at right now is not unreasonable but I don't think it is worth much more than that.

Shell cents were popular back in the 30's because they were an inexpensive souvenir item, usually not more than a nickel apiece. But they fell out of favor and many people today don't know about them and have never seen one.

It's at $172.50 now.

I've never seen one and think it would be nice to have but I can think of a lot of other things to spend that kind of money on.

Conder101, thanks for the history lesson. I've never seen one and I would never have figured out how it was made.

Of course, mow I want one.

Maybe someday.

Interesting. First time I heard about these Capped coins. I guess the condition plays a big role in values. Some are sold for less than $40.

More info from CCF.

I've seen this before. I was watching a tv show on one of the smaller unknown networks where people take random items to get appraised. One man had a collection of items pertaining to the baby kidnapping, one being the same cent. If memory serves me right these were being sold as souvenirs during the trials. I don't think it's worth as much as people are bidding
