From reading the description it sounds like a regular proof to me. Looks like one more thing for people to buy. $19.95 seems steep and they also do not say if there will be a certain number of mintage of these sets.

the mint is crazy, for a $25 roll of the pres dollars it cost 35 plus 5 shipping. 40 bucks for 25 face value

I must admit buying the silver mint sets. At least there is a metal of value to justify the cost. The mint has gotten rediculous with some of the pricing and packaging of late. It is no wonder the issue on the platinum 10th Aniversary sets is 17,681 rather than the planned 32,000. Platinum spot shot way up and the display box is simply gorgeous, must have cost 50 bucks alone. Have to find something to display in it that wouldn't attract a burgular but the box alone screams TAKE ME. nlp

Understand just how many of these Presidential coins they are minting.......billions !.......they've got to find creative ways to "package" and "re-package" the same coin so that they can .......one....git rid of their "stock".......and two.......make even MORE money on these coins......and yes they are the exact same proof coin that you're able to get so many different kinds of ways already........you just get a "copied" signature and a "leather folder" with this one !>>>>>>>>......good grief !....The U.S. Mint is going to get as bad as the Home Shopping Network, Franklin Mint, etc. etc. etc.....if they don't STOP IT !

Can you imagine buying every United States Mint Presidential $1 Coin Historical Signature Set. You would have to designate a room in your house, just for storage.
Bulky Packaging + A proof coin that could be bought for less money = A bad investment.
I would steer clear of this one.

OK, I will be the 1st to admit....I bought one of these sets. I wanted to see if there was any difference. I will admit, I was impressed by the packaging, however, I do not see these making the Red Book for any future type of reference. I guess it would be different if they only made so many of these sets, but it looks to me there4 is no limit

Wow, that is a steep price. Especially considering the melt value of the coin is $0.07!

I'm not sure if you can look at it that way....I know there are lots of coins in the newer era that have very little melt value, but can be worth a substantial more. I guess I was hoping for one of those rarities that you read about.... "United States Mint Presidential $1 Coin Historical Signature" have special coin...bla bla bla....
It was a long shot....I will not buy the rest of the series.

i would have to agree with this cuz your paying for a coin and a "copied" signature. I have heard tons of people say this is a waste of money and I have to agree.

The mint is still selling 2007 proof sets, both clad and silver. Kinda tells ya something, doesn't it?

BobK, the 2007 full set clad and silver sets are still on sale because the 2008 sets have not been issued yet. Once they are, the 2007s will go off sale. The clad sets went on sale July 19 and the silver sets were August 23 so both were issued relatively late in the year.

quote: The product is presented in a textured, leather-like folder which opens to reveal the intaglio print and the official Presidential signature. A Certificate of Authenticity accompanies each United States Mint Historical Signature Set.
I didn't realize that President Washington was handing out "authentic and official" signatures? Can't the old guy get some peace? Seriously, these leatherette coin folders were big in the '70s, and as many garage sales would indicate, they did not usually prove to have any collector value. And, even worse scams are being pushed by the cable TV guys.

Obviously these people have a total disregard for international law! How dare they start hunting Naugas again to make coin cases. I say we picket their bathrooms!
