I know old whitman folders aren't the best, but if I put them in ziploc bags with the air pressed out, would they be ok? The folder will be for circ. franklins that will mostly come from coin roll hunting.

- Thanks

That will keep the outside air out, but you still should consider the gasses usually omitted by the glues.

Ok, but will it be ok for the circ. coins? Like if I used a littleton folder would it be better? I like the look of the old whitman folders more than the green littletons at least for silver coins.
Rest in Peace

If folders are your thing then stay with the Whitman . Circs will be just fine , no need to put into zip-lock bag .
Filling this folder with CRH finds will take some time ,unless you started 50 years ago .

I started with Whitman folders when I was a kid. Even though I moved to albums, I still have them for sentimental reasons. Some have had a few coins in there since the early 80s and have held up well. I think keeping them in a stable environment helps. I think they are okay for circulation finds, just keep them dry and relatively cool (no unfinished attics, basements, or garages).

How old is "old"?
There weren't many archival quality folders back in the 50's, 60's and 70's.
Even maybe the 80's.
The paper will contain sulfur and if you put them in baggies that will allow the sulfur to concentrate.

This has been mentioned in the past. Some of the reasons not to put coins in any Folders is:
1. Pushing coins into a Folder is normally done with a finger or thumb. This leaves prints on the coins from oils and acids.
2. Moisture and air get to coins faster than if not in an Album where a plastic slide covers the coins.
3. The biggest problem with a Folder is the glue that is used to glue the paper onto the cardboard with the slots. This glue if and when it gets a bit wet or damp will mess up coins.
4. Every time you open a Folder you could possibly sneeze, cough or even spit on the coins.

I started out with folders, but upgraded to albums later.
I think they are fine for circulated coins.
