I found an 1883 Liberty V nickel with ridges and I can't find anything about it online can someone help me? I don't know if it's an error at the mint or man made.

they weren't made with ridges on the rim. Can you tell us the weight and measure it? a V nickel should weigh 5 grams and be 21.2 mm in diameter

I'm not sure of the weight. It is 21.2 mm. I apologize my step mom just inherited a bunch of cons and I'm trying to help her

does it have CENTS on the reverse? if not, maybe someone started to make a Racketeer Nickel. 1883 Liberty V nickels w/o CENTS were gold plated to try and pass them off as gold coins.

I'm interested but the pics are too out of focus. I really can't tell much.

An in-focus shot of the edge would be most helpful to see how professional the reeding (or ridges) looks. Of course, focused pics of the front (obverse) and back (reverse) will help, too.

As Fuzzy mentioned, whether or not it has the word "CENTS" on the reverse below the large "V" can explain things a little more.
