Well I'm not sure to make of it. At first I thought it was a spiked head, die crack coming from nose to rim. But its not a line, its more spread out like a die break, but no die chip? Then I thought about a die clash, because there is a clash that happens in that area I think, but it don't resemble a part of the coin or anything for that matter? It also shows signs of Die Deterioration and misaligned die, does this have something to with what's going on around the face? I am trying to recall all I have learned so far but nothing is coming to head. What do you think is happening here? Die Break, Die Crack, Die Clash?

Looks like a VLDS and the reverse looks like damage to me.

That looks like a scratch on the reverse but I think Jefferson is
taking a very close look at an Angel fish in an aquarium on the obverse.
Sorry, couldn't help myself. Keep on searching!

yes the reverse definitely has a scratch running though the word Monticello. I was trying to show the extra thick letters "LLO" in the close up. I will chalk the obverse up to a very late die stage, thank you for taking a look!

It does kind of look like an angelfish
