The Royal Mint - 2016 was an exciting year for UK coinage. For the first time ever we brought children's literature to circulating coins with five Beatrix Potter designs. We also celebrated the life and works of William Shakespeare with three £2 coins and supported Team GB at Rio 2016 with a 50p piece. All in all it was a bumper year for the Coin Hunt, with 12 new commemorative designs in total. Aside from the commemorative designs, preparations continued for the introduction of the new 12-sided £1. And let's not forget the one pence, two pence, five pence and ten pence pieces, of which there over 1 billion 2016 dated coins.
With 12 new designs released in 2016, the total number of coins to find on your Coin Hunt now stands at 115! Some are harder to find than others, like the Kew Gardens 50p and the Edinburgh £1, but how hard will it be to find the 2016 coins? Well, the 2016 UK coin mintage figures have now been released and there's one or two coins that will have you checking your change!
