Yeah ,the best way to tell is to take a hammer and chisel to it and see if there is any under lying Zinc on that coin .

After a little research on the interwebs I've read that your way isn't always conclusive... the NEW way to tell if it's genuine is to throw it up in the air and hit it with an aluminum baseball bat... then listen to the tone it makes while sailing away... I'll get back to you! ;-P
