Thanks for the comments. I believe this to be a business strike with perhaps a beat up semi-prooflike obverse.

I'd love for it to be a proof -- what a plot twist that would be!

Believe it or not, this coin is a very heavily cleaned Proof piece. That's why I mentioned "Proof."
