i found a token that I cant identify. I googled it, but only found one that is similar, but had a different design on it. Looking forward to reading your opinions on this token also, does anyone know how to remove what I think are marker stains from the token?

Since these were tokens issued by the contractors, they may have utilized two different suppliers or the supply company used different stamps, not super unusual, if the event is the same and presented by is the same, gotta be a logical reason long lost in antiquity. PS: It's one of yours, not mine...

Might give it a good soak in acetone overnight, xylene or Verdi-care for the green verdigris. The black marks may be marker/ink, they may be difficult if both these don't remove them...just remember, if stains/corrosion/crud is removed, it may leave a difference in coloring/tone on the coin. Stay away from commercial cleaners, the chemicals may be acidic enough to damage the surface metals. After using the above products, always rinse off with distilled water, city water has harmful additives. Pat dry, don't scrub, gets cleaning lines.

Some people might say olive oil, but I doubt about good results from anything you try. If any results, you might just replace the stains with a different sort of unsightly blotch. I've had some little improvement with a sharp toothpick under a microscope to just "knock off" most of the "chunks".

I like your token. A lot of Canadian tokens are rough and they still seem to have interest. I haven't seen this one before, but I'll be looking. If you can get it to look a little better without scratching or taking away the natural milk chocolate color, then bully for you. If not, it isn't all that bad. Here's another link of these contractors with a lot of photo's of the job they did on the Fraser River Bridge in mid 1900's just a tad before your token was minted. http://searcharchives.vancouver.ca/...bject/browse
