I also just successfully optimized an image over 10 MB down to 252 KB and it looks very nice. Changed it from 5400 pixels wide to 1000 with 75% compression....
That's really unfortunate - I really liked the CCF image optimizer, even when I didn't plan to post the result on CCF, because it doubled as a convenient photo cropper.
Would the new version be able to deal with large photo sizes (e.g. over 2000 pixels)? In the old version, at least one of the dimensions had to be 2000 pixels or below to apply any changes (which sucked when the photo needed a lot of cropping to be usable). Also, would it still be possible to download the resulting file even if it is larger than the image upload size limit of CCF?
...Come to think of it, back when the whole "secure site" thing was proposed, I saw everyone except the OP, including a few staff members, explaining various reasons why it shouldn't be done. Why, exactly, was it done anyway again? I think I must have missed that argument...
OK, I made changes to a photo (1000 pixels). Do I just right click and save? When I do that it only allows the file to be saved as either a PNG or a BMP. Also, when I resize the photo it shows its size to be 188.5 KB, but when I try to upload the resized photo it says that it is over 300 KB. Once saved, the image is actually 552 KB.
