I guess I'm not in the know.

He has a lot of very cool stuff listed. Unfortunately, they're all way out of my price range.

Wow!
Yet another back door job.
And unlike the 1970 dollars struck on gold he had listed a while back, it's not subject to confiscation.

I have my doubts.

Krause lists the 1978 - 89 nickel 50 Cents thus:
weight 8.1 grams, diameter 27mm.

Nickel has a density of 8.88 g/cc, copper 8.93 g/cc, gold 19.32g/cc.
I will assume that the coin in the slab is 18ct gold, density is about 16.7 g/cc.

The coin in the slab, IF the same thickness and diameter as a standard nickel 50 cents, SHOULD weigh around 15.1 grams.
It doesn't; it is reported as weighing only 12.1 grams.
If pure gold, then the slabbed coin should weigh even more, at around 17.6 grams.

SOMEONE need to correct me if my doubts are unfounded.

If you read lower in the listing it says that it was .999 gold.... So my best guess is it isn't the same thickness...

It's part of the infamous 1970 Manitoba gold pieces, except there is fewer 50 cent version

I have seen this one around before. It's quite obvious that it had a helping hand in becoming what it is. The only problem that I have with this coin is that its not in my collection.
