Hi everyone! My name is Tyler. I've been interested in coins since I was younger but never really started a collection more than grabbing some wheat pennies here and there. About 8 months ago I started more avidly pulling older coins out of the register I worked. Gotten together a decently nice collection, mostly circulated grades but some in, at least from what I've been able to somewhat figure out, in decently high grades! At the moment my entire collection has been pulled from coin rolls / cash register change, and for the most part it will likely stay that way. I definitely love going through roll, of almost any kind. At this point though most of my knowledge focuses around Jefferson nickles. Ive almost got an entire set as far as the basic mints / years go. I decided to join up here after making a trip to one of my local "coin shops" and the gentleman there basically had no interest in talking to me or want anything to do with the 1941 s or S nickel that I had brought in to try and figure out if it was a large or small s variant. After that I decided to come ask the people who were actually INTERESTED in these things like I am! So now onto the fun! And picture posting attempts take 1. This is some of the higher grade ones I've come across. Very excited by the prospect of finally making this account though and having some people to chat with about it all!

Nice finds! Don't see many proof coins in circulation and the Two Cents are great, too!

Yea I was pretty stoked when I pulled the proof, although looking at it under the cameras zoom you can really see how beat up it is .. looks a lot better to the naked eye.
And the steelie I have 3 in pretty good shape ... and basically the rest of a roll in assorted lower grades. We got a bank roll at my store one day that was entirely steelies with a few early 30s regular wheats in there too. That was a fun roll.

Welcome, Raist, you are doing it right! Pull coins, or currency, from circulation and learn about them. As you build up a pile of coins and look at them, note which years are absent. Find out why. Figure out which mint marks are possible for each year. Catch the oddities, there are some people that collect the oddballs. Above all, have fun. If it becomes a chore, stop or at least hit pause. You don't need more chores. Don't spend money on a coin until you know why you want it and how much it is worth. Then watch out for counterfeits. Let me be repetitive, Have fun! Make friends, learn, and make sure you keep your collection secure. Keep it secure from acquaintances that like to 'borrow' things. There is money everywhere, in chairs and couches, in places where people change clothes, even in the streets. Some collectors keep their eyes open for loose change as they walk the streets. Some guys and gals get metal detectors and look on beaches, old battlefields, trails, abandoned building sites, etc. Always be legal. If you search on a property, ask permission - that gets complicated sometimes. If you search your cash drawer at work, get your supervisors approval. If you search Fort Knox be vewwy vewwy quiet. Oh yeah, have FUN!

Hello Tyler, welcome to CCF. Seems you you are starting out the way many of us have, finding coins in circulation. The few you posted photos of are great finds. Also want to compliment you on the quality of your photos, very nice. Enjoy the hobby and don't be afraid to make posts here at CCF.

to CCF! Suggestion - rotate the photos so they are at least correctly oriented and crop down to the coin itself - that lets you post bigger photos and still remain in the limits. A free program (Windows) that does this easily is Paint.Net available at http://getpaint.net - but there are others too.

Thanks I'll give that a shot when I get home next week. I've just been using the link on this site to resize them so far.
@indiangoldeagle, thanks! So far I've just been using my phone. I'm actually gonna give my GoPro a shot when I get back home to see how that does. I know I can get the ultra high resolution from that but I'm not sure about the zoom levels. We'll just have to see ^^.
