Has anyone had any luck trying to get the mint to replace broken coin capsules? I managed to drop my 2011 $25 toronto map coin and broke the capsule. Impossible to find any after market replacement, and I want to put it in one before it starts to tone. thanks

Not sure about the Canadian Mint, but US Mint will not sell the capsules separately (at least they wouldn't sell them to me...) You might find one on an auction site where the seller pulled a coin out for grading. I've seen a few capsules and cases sold that way.
I went to my local dealer and he actually pulled another coin out of one and gave me the capsule! Don't know how often that happens, but it doesn't hurt to ask I guess. I made purchases at the same time, so that might "grease the wheel" so to speak. Most of the local dealers are really great guys and they want to keep their base happy. Hope you find one soon.

Ex British proof set screw capsules become available from British proof sets. The pattern of the capsule will most probably be different, but with a bit of luck, a close match for diameter is very possible. I am lucky enough for my LCS to almost always have them. The set cases are almost always available as well.
Try googling: "coin capsules', if your LCS does not sell them.

A while back I dropped a coin and broke the capsule, I called my rep and he had no problem replacing the capsule. In fact I do believe I had the replacement within a week.

http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/25-fi....WTbcyWgrK00 I have had coin capsules replaced for free from the mint, but that was within hours or days of it's arrival. That Toronto coin is such an odd size, and it was long ago, I doubt you would have any luck through the mint.

Try using packing tape to seal it until you find a replacement. The neighbourhood I grew up in is just a touch too far from the downtown core and wasn't on the coin although it is Toronto.

@ Rockfish Did you purchase your Toronto City Map Coin from the RCM? I purchased mine from the Mint. One month after I received my coin from the Mint, the Mint sent out replacement capsules because there was a problem with the coin not fitting properly in the capsule. Contact the Mint with these product numbers. Here are the numbers on the packing slip: Product Number 3802220-PM CAP BOT 65.5mm x 5.70mm Product Number 3802210-PM CAP TOP 60/65mm Good luck. I still have the original capsule from the coin that was replaced with the replacement capsule listed above.

Thanks all, and thanks for those product numbers Tender. Was hoping to get one from the Mint to keep all the packaging original, but if not, I might try those 62mms.

Tender4848,
Having product numbers for each piece of the capsule is simply amazing. Again, the forum never fails to amaze me. I have this coin, bought secondhand. I wonder if my capsule was replaced at some time and if the coin was handled properly.

The Toronto coin wasn't produced by the RCM but I bought mine from them and didn't get a replacement capsule. No idea if I have the right one or the wrong one. I honestly can't say I ever noticed it not fitting in the capsule. Maybe it was only some of them with that needed to be replaced? Makes me wonder if the RCM packaged the coins and where they shipped from Switzerland in bulk without capsules or boxes?

I had a capsule replaced by the Mint at no cost but had to pay shipping. It did take a few months.
