Found this die gouge on the reverse of a Lincoln Shield cent. Found it interesting so I wanted to share and get comments. Thank you all in advance.

Looks more like a die scratch than a gouge.

Hi John1-I may be confusing my definitions. So a die scratch will only be seen in the fields and not in the devices similar to a die gouge. The only difference between gouge and scratch is the size (width) of the defect?

The light shows it as a die scratch. Light from SE, light reflection on SE side of area in question. If it were coin damage, it would be wider and show on the NW side of the area in question. The EPU on these are incuse, so a die scratch can happen on the fields and also disappear behind devices.
