Hello,I was married to a Booth...
Anyways here is another chip I have and it is quite a blob in person...LOL, But I see no evidence of a trail. It is an old coin though.
Thanks, Tery
I know not the greatest pics, but you get the idea. I will be getting a camera soon!

Hello Teryble!

Hope his name wasn't David Booth my lecherous father!? Last I seen him was in Ocala, Fl 10 years ago. LOL

Anyways. if this is in reference to my theory on trails I was suggesting that coins with trails might all have another problem like a die chip and not that all coins with die chips have trails. I hope I haven't confused anyone.

Nice....die chips in LIBERTY were for some reason abundant in years 52-58, with perhaps 56 & 57 the most abundant of all.

Regarding trails...I don't fully understand the process either, but it seems the trails were created during the hubbing of the die? By contrast, die chips occur during die use when pieces break away due to fatigue. But let the experts say it better!

Kurt, you are right on both points. From what is known, and if anyone knows, it is BJ. He has a web page that deals exclusively with trails, and wavysteps. The two are related, and are seemingly a part, or side effect, or whatever, but definitely related.

PS I wonder if W.W. Booth, from SBDO area, and was in VP-40, during the 50's, might figure in this picture? He was a radio operator, flying P5M's
