i obtained this large letter cent from a friend, also have an 1834 and 1838. please provide info. thanks everyone!

I would say its G4 to 6 for grade and value of 15 to 20 dollars.

I'll say G4. Looks like something's going on on the neck and chin area that keeps it from a 6. The reverse gets a 6, but I'll net it at a G4.

Good-4 with a nasty scrape on the 13th star. It's the kind of coin that copper dealers put in box and sell for "your pick, $10 each."

billjones, where are these copper dealers found?! The people at my coin show are the only ones that sell large cents, and they're all like this or worse. They want $30+ for each

If you go to the major shows, you could check out Pierre Fricke. He is mostly known for Civil War currency, but he usually has at least three boxes of lower grade large cents at three different price levels, all under $30 apiece.

He claimed that one customer was able to put together a date set from 1817 to 1857, minus the 1823, from his boxes. As long as you not fussy about grades, you find something of interest.
