So doing my coin roll hunting and found this... how would I tell the difference between PMD and faulty planchet. I am also including a pic with another half in the "hole" so you can see the matching radius. Looking at the edge shot the metal layers can clearly be seen just like on a regular everyday coin. Also the metal does not "hump up" like it would have been hit with something. Any input and expertise would be appreciated since I don't really know anything about these kind of errors.

Thank you
Finn

Hard to tell, I am leaning towards PMD, but let's let the experts chime in.

Can you post pics of the entire coin in question, both sides?

Judging by the rim leading to the anomaly and how another half fits against it, it looks like a clipped planchet. Whole coin pics may show the Blakesley Effect opposite the clip.

The weakening of the devices near the clip would also be consistent with the mint error.

I see what you mean. It does have a slight "bulge" opposite the clip on the coin rim. I think that is what you were talking about. Had to look up what that even meant lol.
Thx,
Finn

That's why I didn't explain it.

With the new pics, it does appear that this is a genuine clipped planchet.

Think I'm seeing the Blakesley effect between the "D" and "S" of 'UNITED STATES".
with spruett001, it is a clipped planchet.
