I am working on a Roosevelt dime collection, and so far, have been collecting everything in 2x2s.
I have used both Dansco Albums and CAPS Albums, and really like the CAPS set-up, but wanted to know if there are differences in what coins are in the Dansco 8125 album (which is the Roosevelt dimes plus proofs) vs. the CAPS 2076 & 2077 Albums (which are the two CAPS albums for Roosevelt dimes plus proofs).
Specifically interested if they both include the early (pre-1964) proofs, and also the 1996W and the 1965-1967 SMS coins, and also some of the "Type 2" coins (I believe the 1979S Type 2 and 1981S Type 2).

I can't seem to find a listing of the exact coins in these CAPS albums on the CAPS Album website. I sent them an Email, but haven't heard back yet.

So if anyone has these albums or knows the answer, that would be great.

Thanks.

The CAPS album has Proofs from 1950 forward.

The individual pages can be viewed here by clicking on each Roosevelt page.

Here is the full answer I got from contacting the CAPS people:

Does it have both the regular Proof and the Silver Proofs? YES
How about Proofs dated before 1964? Does it have space for the earlier proofs? YES
Do these albums have a slot for the 1996W Dime? YES
How about the 1979S Type 2 Dime? YES
How about the 1965, 1966 and 1967 SMS Type Dimes? YES

DANSCO 8125 Roosevelt dime Album with Proofs:

Does it have both the regular Proof and the Silver Proofs? YES
How about Proofs dated before 1964? Does it have space for the earlier proofs? NO
Do these albums have a slot for the 1996W Dime? YES
How about the 1979S Type 2 Dime? YES
How about the 1965, 1966 and 1967 SMS Type Dimes? NO

So, sounds like the CAPS album has a few more 'slots' then the Dansco album, such as the earlier proofs (although they do get pricey!) and the 1965-1967 SMS proofs.

Also, I do like that I can easily add a page to a CAPS album for a few 'slabbed' coins (such as the early proofs!) whereas I can't do that with a DANSCO album.

So, looks like the CAPS album is the way to go.. despite it much higher cost and size...

Michael

The Dansco 8125...

Does not have pre-1964 proof coins.
Does not have the 1965-1967 SMS coins.
Does have the 1996-W.
Does have the 1979-S varieties.
Does not have the 1981-S varieties.

What about the Proof and Reverse Proof that came with the 2015 March of Dimes set?

Those are not in the Dansco, unless they have issued an update that is unknown to me.

I just looked at the CAPS Albums, and for 2015, they have:
2015-P
2015-P Silver Reverse Proof
2015-D
2015-S Clad Proof

So looks like the CAPS album has them all ?!!
So, again, another "plus" for the CAPS albums..

There is a space for the 2015 reverse proof dime

Again, they only have proofs from 1950 forward. Not pricey in that range.

Correct, but that reverse silver proof is 2015-P.

The 2015-W silver dime is a normal proof. I do not see that in the image on the link your listed, but in truth it should be on the next page...

However, the image for that page is wrong.

Debrajc,

So, just so I understand, do you mean that Roosevelt dimes didn't have any proofs prior to 1950 (which is what I think you meant) or that the CAPS Album only has spaces for the Proofs from 1950s and on-wards?

Michael.....

CAPS albums with proofs start making spaces from 1950 forward.
They do not include the earlier proofs in any of their albums.
I have 17 CAPS albums. I am a big fan of CAPS!

Sorry jbuck....

Here is the last page they have a picture of available which includes a space for the 2015P proof:

http://www.capsalbums.com/2077-2-ro...ith-proofs-3

One thing nice about the CAPS albums is once you purchase them you can order new cardboard printed sheets when the mint adds a surprise.
Like the Sacagawea enhanced uncirculated versions that started in 2014 or a 2017 silver eagle "S" mint for example.

To be clear, yes, the 2015-P Reverse Proof is there on the image of that second page you linked above.

However, but the 2015-W Proof is not.

It looks like it should be on the third page, but the image on the link to the third page (below) is of the first page.

http://www.capsalbums.com/2077-3-ro...ith-proofs-3

I cannot imagine they would have the 2015-P Reverse Proof and not the 2015-W Proof. I think we can probably assume it has a place on the third page, but a photo would confirm.
