So I sent a lot of 6 coins to NGC, one of which was my 1855 S Seated Liberty quarter, in which I grade at XF details - Environmental Damage. I just got the grades of the 6 coins today, and it says that my quarter is "Not Suitable For Certification".

Does anyone know why they would say this?

EDIT: I just realized, don't I need to send problem coins to NCS?

It is possible that the coin had active PVC residue contamination, they will not slab that type of coin because it would continue to deteriorate in the holder.

No, NCS is for conservation. You can submit problem coins directly to NGC and they will grade them. Only coins that require conservation must go through NCS to have a shot at encapsulation.

If NGC won't put it in a DETAILS slab, NCS won't be able to conserve it (unless NGC suggested that you send it to NCS).

There are several surface conditions that preclude slabbing by NGC (even in DETAILS slab) that can and will be slabbed after NCS conservation. Many coins not suitable for encapsulation are conserved by NCS and then encapsulated in details and problem-free slabs.

I don't mean to hijack this post but there is some good info shared here about NCS.

I have an Uncirculated details "Stained" NGC 1921 high relief Peace dollar, it looks like something that might come off with acetone.

I'm planning on sending it to NCS soon. But I don't want to waste time and money, so My question is;
1. If it's already in a details slab does it mean it's already been or attempted to be conserved by NGC? How could I find out if it had?
2. Should I crack it open and send coin in raw or just send in it's detaIls slab.

TIA
