I sold a 1898-P Morgan on ezay this past week and was told it was a fake since it didn't have a mint mark and wanted a return. Now I'm not an expert but was pretty sure Philly Morgan's don't have a P. Buyer quickly closed the return request.

There was no mint mark for Philly on Morgan and Peace dollars. Sounds like the buyer had second thoughts and looked for an excuse to return it.

Yes, according to CoinTrackers.com, the 1898 Morgan dollar does not have a mintmark. I am surprised that the buyer knew that little about the coin he was buying, though.
Rest in Peace

The first P mintmark on a US coin was on a War Nickel in 1942. No P mintmarks before that. After the War Nickels ended in 1945, a P mintmark did not appear until 1979 on the SBA dollar and 1980 on other US denominations. The first P mintmark on a one cent coin began this year in 2017.

Oh and your Morgan dollar looks like it has almost proof-like surfaces on the reverse, may be BU with mostly light bagmarks. Nice coin.

Nothing looks off about your Morgan and it looks genuine to me. It may have been cleaned though.
Rest in Peace

It doesn't appear to be fake to me. It sounds like a case of buyers remorse.
