I have always used Coin World's Coin Values for retail prices: http://www.coinworld.com/coinvalues.html
Others will recommend NumisMedia, which I used recently at a coin show in conjunction with Coin Values: http://numismedia.com/

There's 4 online sources that I use to determine the value of a coin.

1- Numismedia which has market prices listed for all US coins
2 - Coin World posts their coin values online
and finally the main two when I'm researching a coin to purchase or want the real value of one in my collection:
3 - PCGS coinfacts which shows the market prices last paid for a particular coin. You can even drill down to a particular auction and look at the coins sold and the amount they sold for.
4 - Heritage Coin Auction archives. Same thing as PCGS but you get a little more information.

You could also look at ebay sold listings, more cumbersome, but probably gives an accurate picture of true value for lower value coins.

No surprise.
They are quoting retail prices.
Numismedia is another site but they are also retail prices.

ebay results are a bit more realistic; between retail and wholesale.
Heritage is very good but doesn't cover less expensive coins.

Attending shows, buying at Gray Sheet bid or less, selling at about 20% under, works for me. IMHO, this is far more realistic than looking at mags that jack up values in order to sell their products.
