I had some halves counted and cashed in. The result was a 30%+ error in my favor. I've never run into this situation where the machine is off by a large amount. Obviously if it was a teller error I would make it right, but this isn't a teller error. Am I expected to return the money? Is there anyway to prove which coins dumped were mine or not?

When I used to buy bags of halves off of the coin counter at my credit union, on occasion the bag would be over count in various denoms such as quarters, dimes and cents, sometimes up to $20 or so...the first time I brought back the difference, they refused the overage, saying there was no way to account for it (balance the books).

In your case, their balance will be off, but...

I've pumped thousands of dollars into these machines at my local bank branch. The machines ended up getting removed after a class action lawsuit was filed when it comes as determined that the machine were often short changing customers. You win some, you lose some. Same goes for the bank I suppose.
