Over the years, there have been many KHD plated with different materials. Looks like that's what this is. Interesting to find in a roll.

Selectively gold plated, a commercial private issue usually as a souvenir.
Now, mints sell this sort of thing to collectors.
Of no real numismatic value but the mints have realized that some collectors love them, and have seen the commercial opportunity to sell to those collectors.

and yes, many private mints have plated / gilded common coins over the years
to sell at a premium price to novice individuals.

A cool CRH find but just worth 50 cents in the real world.

Thanks for the help. If it's not worth anything extra I'm just going to throw it back in and get another box. Or should I be keeping stuff like this?

Well is it worth it to you to give up the fifty cents to keep it? If it is then keep it, if it isn't then throw it back and use it to get a anther 50 cent piece that you might want more.

I'd put it back in circulation. Then someone else will think they found a great coin.

Sound advice.

Personally, I would keep it. It is only fifty cents.
