1992 P Jefferson Nickel Has Me Stumped?

SuperPoacher74 Valued Member United States 115 Posts	Posted 06/18/2017 9:53 pm I found this 1992 P Jefferson nickel while dumping my already going through change into a Coinstar. The machine would not take it. After looking at the coin you can clearly see it looks to be very lightly struck, smaller in diameter than other nickels not by a lot but enough to matter and much thinner but doesn't look thinner due to wear. It weighs 3.7 grams and even sounds different everything about it is off and I would love to find out something about it because of intrigues me. Report this Post to the Staff

Would an acid wash actually make the coin thinner and not lose the details of the designs? I know the designs are not clear but something just doesn't add up here. Report this Post to the Staff

Why would someone want to smash two coins together in a vise? I don't think we'll get an answer for that one. I'm certainly not an expert but, the acid will work fairly equally at eating away the surface so it won't just affect the high points. That will allow the design to remain somewhat. I can't really explain it as I see it in my head.
