So I need to downsize a bit to free up some cash for upcoming surgery. I don't want to use ebay and I can't list them on CCF (way more than 3.) Is Heritage my best bet? They are (sort of) local, about an hour away. I am worried they will take a huge chunk out of the proceeds. But I've also heard coin dealers that advertise that they will "buy your collection" only offer 20%-40% of the actual value at most. Thoughts from anyone who's had to let some coins go would be appreciated. I consigned a few nice old US coppers to a local auction house awhile ago, and got way over what I'd hoped for, even with the 20% fee. Only glitch was, it took 'forever' ( 3 months) to get the check.
I see the same trend nowadays at local sales when attending as a buyer. This is the Phila. area, a hotbed of collecting. Might be a better option than Heritage if your local market is good and there are outlets you can trust. Heritage is fussy about the quality of stuff they like to handle. Local auction houses, not so much.
Not sure why you do not want to sell via CCF. I have seen a lot of your postings that would attract my interest if they were on the market.
In any case, good luck; hope the procedure goes well.

Post them on CCF first. It doesn't cost you anything but shipping. If you accept PayPal its 2.9%. I would would be interest in US coins from the 17 and 1800's. Do you have any Seated dollars?

I have tried different routes when I needed to sell off some of my coins. The last time was in 2013, I consigned a bunch of stuff to Teletrade and it worked well but they got bought out by Stacks so I'm not sure if their model changed or not. The best route though was when I went to the summer ANA convention. I hit up a big name national dealer (advertises a lot in Coin World about buying your collection.) He was really nice but said the coins weren't for him but he directed me to a dealer at the show that I should talk to. I went there and sure enough they bought them for more than I ever expected. So that worked out the best imo. The LCS was the worst way to go in my experience even though I bought much of the material from them to begin with. They offered 30-40% of the coins worth.

there are some really good PCGS forum members that take consignment coins and ebay them. They charge a small fee.....these are guys that have off the chart excellent references from lots of collectors and are really well known. From what I saw, they get great prices too

Lots of good advice here. Heritage will take a large (but fixed and preset) chunk, but they get broad exposure. They also have minimum total value constraints and other conditions.
The quality of your holdings will generally dictate the best course for dispersal. Give us some sense of the scope of your collection either here or by PM.
Without inquiring, I'm sure we all wish you the best in this surgery.

Total collection is around $100k, I am looking to sell off $10-$20k worth. Mostly PCGS/NGC. I want to sell off mainly some extra type set coins, gold, Proofs, GSA Morgans, etc. If I can free up some cash this way I will avoid having to take a loan/finance or worse having to sell either or both of my Mustangs.
As for CCF being only able to sell three items at a time is a major constraint, so is the relatively limited exposure outside of CCF.

One second thought check out David Lawrence. When I got back in the game in November, I started following the three main auction sites. David Lawrence always seemed too expensive. The prices realized are far higher than Great Collections or Heritage. They do a better job of selling by offering a suggested price estimate which is much higher than prices realized by the other two. Great for sellers, bad for buyers. They have a flowing hair dollar for sale in good 6 that's bids have already reached $2,150 with an estimate of $2,450. https://www.davidlawrence.com/rare-coin/1244996# In comparison I paid $2,350 for my flowing hair in vg-10 from a Heritage auction.

I will say, what do you have to lose by posting on CCF? I mean, as soon as I see any nice GSA or Morgan dollars, my wallet usually feels a lot lighter.

I'm pretty sure you can ask the moderators to make an exception for you. I've seen people post way more than 3 items at once here.

Agree fully that David Lawrence (DLRC) is a strong auction company. I have used them in the past with great success, and I do not say this lightly.

The "three" rule for selling here says "maximum three active topics at a time", not three items. I haven't tried selling at any of the auction houses listed here, though I've bought from a few of them. I can't offer any advice there, and you would save some fees (and probably get paid faster) by listing here.

Best wishes for your upcoming surgery. No reason you can't use multiple venues. Put some items on CCF to save on auction fees--the audience may be smaller, but you can set your price and there are serious buyers. If there is a time constraint, you can put the rest on Heritage or David Lawrence. ebay isn't ideal for higher end items, especially if you need a quick sale.

I might list some of the higher end stuff on CCF first and see if I get any attention. I can probably make the 10k with less than 30 coins if I sell some bigger fish and keep the minnows.
Also thinking about dumping most of my sports cards since I no longer really invest in the hobby.

I would be interested in US Silver coins of all types.
