I recently got my hands on a very interesting Canadian Encased Cent.

The legend just says "SCC 1917" and it includes 1/4 of a George V large cent (presumably 1917). This is a lot smaller than a typical Encased Cent....it is about the size of a 25 cent coin.

There are a few Encased Cents out of the US that include a part of a coin but this is a first for me from Canada.

Can anyone help with filling me in on what "SCC" means?

Thanks!

That is indeed fascinating.
Easy to see how typical Encased Cents are produced, how is that one locked together, handmade possibly?
You say it's about the size of a quarter which is also about the size of a large cent.
Is it one inch in diameter like the large cent?
Could it be S...... Coin Club ?

Just a shot in the dark....Could it be some souvenir of the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation?

It's slightly smaller than a large cent. I wonder if the "cc" stands for coin club.

It is pretty well made. I think an aluminum coin was made with the inscription and then a hole was cut for the encasement. There are few similar US coins from the 1900 to 1910 time frame. None are on ebay right now though.

I am going to guess this was made by a machine shop of some kind. There are contemporary Canadian Encased Cents, but I have never seen one with a ring this size.

Seigneury Coin Club?
