The mint marks were hand punched into the dies. Thus the locations of the mint mark vary until 1990 when they were part of the design. (no longer hand punched into the dies)
Rest in Peace

To CCF , when I was a Newbie 50 something years ago I wondered the same thing about Mint Marks until I read that they were hand punched into the dies causing some Lincolns to have high and low MM locations .

I am new to the coin community. I have been looking at past posts on error coins to look for a similar type error in any denomination. Finaly I found a post that fits my type of error coin.
I'm not similar with computers.and all I have access to is a android cell phone. I have been trying to figure out how to send in a picture of my 1945s penny with a similar error described in this post that"largecartrucker22" has posted way back in June of 2017. Since the mint marks were hand stamped in 1945 does that mean that a mint mark that is protruding up through and above the date is not concidered an error? Any information on this subject would be appreciated thank you. Signed new member SBo. When I figure out how to post pictures from an android I will post (what I think is an error coin). My 1945s Lincoln Wheat penny with atleast 30% of the s abovethe 4 on the 1945 date thank you.

It is, unfortunately, impossible to answer your question without a close-up picture.
