I just got this Fugio, and I think it may be a Newman 1-B. It's pretty beat to heck on the obverse, but you can tell it has only the cross after the date, and no cinquefoils.

I think it was also a flawed planchet lamination, or there has been some environmental damage to it over the years.

On the reverse though, it looks like the 'AR' in ARE are repunched over the 'ON' as in the Newman 1-B. You can see the 'O' on both sides of the 'A', and I thinkk I see some of the 'N' inside and to the right of the 'R'.

I've been reading all day about FUgio's, and I'm pretty what I'm seeing is there, and that it is a 1-B, but extra eyes never hurt. I have been able to 'match up' what I see with some of the 1-B's that have sold through Heritage.

Also, what would you grade this as? It's going to ANACS next week, but I'd like to see what you all think first.

ACB, yes, and IMO, that's one of the cool things about the Fugio. And there is a 1:1,000,000 chance that he or one of the other founding fathers or mothers possibly held this particular coin at one point! But that goes for any coin of this age.
Rest in Peace

I think they're a bit more lenient on early coppers aren't they? I would grade it FR-2 at best, date is barely readable reverse is G-3 but obverse is PO1. May rate higher at TPG?

Sorry for the late reply, but I agree with your attribution
of Newman 1-B (W-6600) based on my reading of my Bowers' Colonial and Early American Coins. There seems to be just enough detail remaining on the obv to confirm that the ornament is actually a cross with a pellet in each corner rather than a cinquefoil.
