I have watched coins flipped for almost 30 years to start a football game.
Every official I work with has a special coin for the toss.
A lot of them are oversize ceremonial coins, many even say "heads" and "tails", no getting it wrong there.
I have my personal coin in my pocket since 2012.
Being Canadian, with a love of football, of course it is the 100 Grey Cup $1.00 (loonie).
It just seems great to offer the visitor the choice of "Cup" or "Queen" instead of heads or tails.
Guess what the kids pick, "Cup" every time, and most times the football gods shine on them.
Would love to hear your story too.

By reputation, the best balanced coin for a coin toss is the British Edward V11 penny (1902-09).
Best tossed using a wooden kip. THE coin when used in a pair for the game of TWO UP.

I would have to use an Ike, of course. I know it is not game day, but it was good enough for Gordon Ramsay on MasterChef Junior...

sel_69l. I did not know that a coin flip coin should be so balanced to make it fair. Interesting!
It is still 50/50 on a toss. Balanced or not. Depends on the call by the captain.
Which is still "Cup" or "Queen". Ha.

jbuck, are you ready to have some "friends" over for a BBQ?
What was the reward for the flip there, with that nice coin.
Was it your arm or the Chef's?

Those are screen captures from the Television. Most definitely Gordon Ramsay's arm there. My guns are nowhere near as beefy. By the way, I had posted about this previously here... http://goccf.com/t/285599

I never play sports games involving coin tosses, or any sports in general (or even watch any of them). But if I had to flip a coin for any reason, my choice would be this Canadian 3 dollar coin with the big, bulky crystal on the reverse: And, of course, I would always choose heads.

Joseph7420, That looks like a birthday coin. The options: "crystal" or "queen", better than heads or tails, I love it. Its too nice to sit in my pocket while I run around for a doubleheader. Too heavy as well, I would end up with "plumbers butt". We can't have that!

It was rumoured the NFL used Morgans during the regular season. Don't know if that is so anymore (or if it ever was). ps ignore the spell check - rumour is how english speakers outside the US spell it.

Thanks jbuck. But, I guess we don't have alot of ref's here. rockfish, the NFL ref's are a different breed. Who knows what they were even allowed to use. Got any ex-NFL captains with coin toss knowledge out there?

No NFL experience, just high school and small college. Usually an ordinary US quarter was the coin of choice and yes, just heads or tails.

sel_691 our carpet is astroturf, and if I took any food on the field, the way the kids eat, they would pick it up off the ground , blow it off and snack it down. HaHa.
herbaby I was beginning to think I was the only "zebra" on the forum. Hope you enjoy the games as much as I do.
