Hi, I'm totally new to this, and would like some assistance determining any possible worth(beyond obvious value) this strange quarter may have. Alrightie, its a 2000 South Carolina State Quarter, but its not in terribly good condition, as I wasn't aware it might be valuable. The strange thing about it is that it seems that the obverse was never nickel/silver plated. It looks like a penny. But the reverse is plated properly. So George's head is copper, but the South Carolina picture is silver. I'll get some pictures as soon as I can, but until then, does anybody have any ideas?

There are several possibilities. It could very well be a plating error, or it could be copper plated. I have seen both. Pics would help, but in the end, the coin would have to be sent off to a certification company such as Anacs, or be viewed by a competent Dealer/Collector. Does it look like this?

Yes, almost exactly, only the obverse is copper, and the reverse is plated. I'm working on getting pics asap. Thanks for the insight, though.

State Quarter errors are very collectible, but authenticity is required. Submit it to Anacs and you will get far more than face value. In circulated grades, you can expect $25 to $50. In uncirculated the price jumps from $60 and can go quite high. Click here http://www.anacs.com/services.html and take the 5 day service. For $20, your investment is well worth it.

Help! What does the form mean when it says "Owner's Value"? I'm a complete n00b, and this will probably really help me. Thanks.

Hi! Generally, ANAC'S is looking for a value that you estimate for your coin for insurance reasons. It is only an estimate. I hope this helps! Mike
