Is the difference between the Type 1 and Type 2 that 1 has Eisenhower and one has SBA?

Strike that question...I see it has to do with the strike of the "S" -- yes?

No, not the strike of the S...it's the type of S mintmark used on the dies.

Look in a Red Book for photos.

Thanks, copper...my mistake; however, I saw (and now cannot find) a 79 type 1 set for sale on ebay this morning and there was an Eisenhower in the set; go figure.

If it was a 72, it was not a proof. There are not any different types of IKEs for proof coins.

The varieties for the 1972 are the 1972-P. There are three different obverses for the uncirculated 1972 IKE.

Hi,
There are ,however many different die varieties (doubled dies) in the Eisenhower series and many are on proof coins. Also, the reverses of the 1972 P Ikes are the ones that are varieties. The varieties pertain to the appearance of the Earth as seen on the coin.

There are also varieties of 1976 S proof coins as the lettering is different on each variety.

I edited this to add that the varieties on the 1976 Bicentennial pieces the Type 1 and 2 coins were made at all three mints.

Here is a partial list of die varieties on Eisenhowers.

So I am not sure what FHDave means.

Thanks,
Bill
