Amongst a group of coins I acquired there is what looks like a 1914 George V Half Sovereign.
First it is definitely not magnetic, BUT, on my scales it weighs 4.00g and not the specified 3.99
Possibly the scales are not 100% absolute accurate (Chinese electronic ones) or is it possible that there were tiny weight variations with these coins ?
I am not convinced it is genuine and am looking to get it acid tested to see what that shows.
I'll add pictures when the light is better !
Cheers
Brian.

3.99=4
That would be well within Weight Tolerance, and well within reason for a scale to be inaccurate to that degree. Not saying it is genuine for sure, but the weight wouldn't concern me.

I would never acid test any gold coin. It may turn out to be genuine! 8% of the coin is copper alloy.

look for a bullion or coin dealer or jewelry dealer who has an XRF machine.

Pictures added.
I have found a local jewellery craftshop, a 'proper' jeweller's where they make their own, and they will take it to test for gold content, no acid test !
It will be a good £15 spent to know for certain if it's the real thing or not !
Cheers
Brian.
