My name is Sheena. I'm 33. I'm a collector of a lot of different things. The first of many being Glass, Antique, vintage, old, pretty, not so pretty, etc. I found a love for collecting anything really about three years ago. I was riding trails with my boys and noticed a very long ditch full of glass and upon inspecting discovered the glass was exceptionally old and the place where the Ditch was actually was a whiskey still at one time. So you can imagine my finds. However glass collecting has brought me many other collecting passions coins being one. I started collecting coins two years ago and I have had many unique pieces. However, as of a couple days ago I didn't know a lot about error coins until I actually found one. My research has not turned up a lot of good information as far as if it is an actual error coin, so joining this forum seemed to be the next step on my adventure of finding info about this particular coin. So I'm sure you are wondering what I have found..? Well I always check my coins that I get back in change from breaking a bill before spending it that way I know if I have any of what I collect and can put it in my safe when I return home. So checking my coins as I always do I found a quarter with a date with five number date yes I said five numbers for the year date. The coin reads 19899. I'm not sure how to tell if it's real and I can definitely tell you it's very clear to read. I will upload an image but want to make sure that is ok before I do so. So if anyone can please give me some insight on my next step I would appreciate the information and Thank Y'all for your time and experienced insight.

just guessing, it sounds like a Washington quarter that has either been altered or suffered some environmental damage. Post pictures of your quarter in the US Modern Error Coin section for the experts to take a look.

Welcome to CCF Sheena! Sounds like you are a collector at heart like many of us here. You'll find many people at this site like you that not only collect coins but many other types of items. There is a thread going where members here post photos of other items they collect. Jump in and do some posts.

Hey anyone who introduces herself with "Y'all" is good by me.

Although I live in Utah now, I've lived most of my life in the South.
