G'day, and good game. When I first looked at the coin, my thoughts were - 1. 2nd portrait, which was introduced in Australia in 1966; not sure of precise dates elsewhere. This was overtaken in Oz in 1985; again I'm not sure of precise dates elsewhere. 2. Oz coins all have the date on the obverse, so it's not from Oz. 3. "D.G. Regina" - a bit old fashioned, but I know Canada persists with it; not sure about other countries. 4. the coin appears like bronze, but it has an unusual texture.
Then I read the other tips, and responses. "... it's not a Canadian one cent"; but "... it is a Canadian coin".
And I note that we are not given any scale by which to estimate a diameter.
So, I'll have a guess that it's a Canadian CuNi coin, somehow discoloured.
I've seen an Oz 5c almost black, that I retreived from the floor of a swimming pool. And that might explain the apparent texture on this coin.
Am I close ?
