Saw this and just HAD to look...never seen this before but it looks like someone put a LOT of effort into it - "Roman Empire" bank notes.

The "set" features Vespasian, Augustus, Hadrian, Trajan, Marcus Aurelius, Diocletian and Constantine.

Denominations are given as 1, 2, 4, 8, 20, 50, and 100 sestertii (in Roman numerals, naturally)

Fortunately a handy "currency conversion" is given at the bottom of each note...

Arabic numerals aside that's pretty cool.

Man, imagine the damage that Nero, Commodus, Caracalla, and Valerian could have done to the Roman economy with fiat currency!

Considering how badly they managed inflation with coins there is no way the Romans should be let anywhere near paper money.

As interesting as it is, I would have thought it should be more faithful to the anachronistic spirit: No English, No Arabic numerals, Pictures as they would have looked then, not as ancient artifacts.

Do you think they would have been printed on paper? Or engraved onto tablets?
