Is this half dollar tone? Is this coin worth buying for $25.00 or do you guys prefer a blast white coin. Its NGC Au58, but kind of tone on the reverse.

The reverse has a slight color variation that might be called toning. I would be happy with the coin, but if I was trying to put together a blast white collection, I would pass on this coin.

I do dislike that toning. I would pass regardless.

It does have slight toning on the reverse but I'm questioning the grade on this one. I see far too much rub for an au-58 coin. Let others chime in but I think this coin is overgraded. I would pass.
Rest in Peace

I"m no fan of toning in general, but I wouldn't say this is toned. It IS most definitely a product of poor storage. My Grandma'd come runnin' with a rag and tarnish remover...

IMO, the coin lacks luster and overall eye appeal.

Yes, it's toned.
It's just not "rainbow toning".
The toning is the common "shades of gray".

AU-58 is a GREAT grade.
That means it would have been an MS-63 or -64 if it weren't for a slight rub somewhere.
But it has the typical weak strike that plagued many of the 1940's WLH's. To me THAT would be the negative that would stop me from buying it.
Rest in Peace

Let me just sum it up for you . You can do a lot better for $25 on the Bay . Has no eye appeal and IMHO the reverse doesn't make AU-58 .
Rest in Peace

An extremely common coin in a very common grade.

Toning does not appear the same on some series as on others, depending on how they were stored.

For example, finding a pretty natural toning on a Morgan dollar is pretty easy. Finding that same type of toning on a Walker half is virtually impossible.

The only "pretty" toning you are likely to find on a Walker is a golden hue. This gray drab discoloration you show here is much more common and detracts from the value (but not the technical grade).

Doesn't really do anything for me either. I prefer toning with some color and punch.
