May need to call foul on that one. NGC lists a Switzerland 5 Rappen KM#5 in F-12 @$450.00 for the 1850 in billion. If not fake, is highest $ of that date series!

It could also be the most common date in the series. That $450.00 is for the 5 rappen without a mint mark, which would be located beneath the wreath. I am seeing something beneath the wreath in the picture, which would be either an AB or a BB. I cannot tell which it is from the pictures provided, but the BB one is probably the most common one in the series (and the only one of this type that I own). Now, I am seeing no lustre and a bit of wear; it would not make an AU grade. I am quite tempted to say a high VF, but looking at other examples on the Internet, the shield wears down quite quickly. Aside from a bit on the top, there is hardly any blending into the edges of the shield. As well, the veins of the leaves look quite apparent. It looks like this coin might make EF-40—way better than my example. (And here is the NGC link, by the way)

Hello, just read your comments and have to ask Crazyb0 I don't understand what you mean by you need to call foul on that one. Do you mean foul on this coin? If so could you explain why? Are you thinking this coin is fake? This would be interesting to find out if this is what you meant. Thank you Joseph7420 for the link. Sent closer pictures and would still love to read more comments. Thanks again.

I would assume Crazyb0 suggested the possibility of this coin being a fake because of how expensive the one without a mintmark is. If there is an expensive coin, there are more than likely counterfeits of it somewhere; I mean, even if a coin is not expensive, counterfeits of it would exist (less likely, but still out there)! Now, from the new pictures, the coin in question is the common BB one. I am not at all great at determining a coin's authenticity, but there is absolutely nothing about this coin that stands out to me of it being a fake.

Joseph7420 have to ask...do you know how one would find out if this coin is a fake? It's so interesting to me, would you have some suggestions on where I could go to find out it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

It's definitely 1850 BB since the AB mintmark occurs to the left of the date.

A grading company would be able to authenticate it, but I highly doubt the price of this coin would justify the cost of getting this graded. There are, however, a few people on this site who are great at determining whether or not a coin is counterfeit (with myself not being one of them). If you re-post this coin in the World Coins forum as an authenticity question, you will probably get more opinions on this coin's authenticity.
