I just saw an 1890 Morgan that was graded as "Brilliant Uncirculated" without a numerical designation. It did not say "Details" or other similar comments on the slab. What exactly does that mean? Slab number 1537944-307 - here's a link to the cert lookup: https://www.NGCcoin.com/certlookup/...4-307/Other/

Just curious, as I thought all straight grades were assigned a numerical value.

They usually do that grade for modern coins when someone sends in dozens of them. I'm not sure but I think it may be cheaper to give them a BU grade instead of a numerical grade. The only other time Ive seen a not modern coin graded BU is if it was a special coin credited to something. Like part of a big collection, 9/11 recovery. They even have slabs grading walking liberties as BU because they were a part of the old mans silver collection from pawn stars.

It's a bulk graded item that either was selected to be graded that way for the cheaper cost or was slabbed that way because it did not reach the minimum grade on the submission

Bulk graded for sure, probably for one of the shopping channels.

BU is a grade range.
As I understand it a BU coin can be anywhere from MS-61 to MS-63 or -64.
Not worth it unless you can accurately grade it AND the price matches your grade.
