Mintage is 20k

Retail price is 234.95

Thanks for the clarification!

Interesting to compare, 50 years ago....

Back then the 1967 silver set with the $20 gold coin cost $40. Canada's inflation calculator prices the same set at $290 in todays dollar. That doesn't take into account the increased value of both silver and gold over time.

Mintage was 334,288.

The centennial set will fly off the shelves. Not the best time for me to loose my MC status and have to pay for shipping lol. Maybe I'll just buy from a dealer.

Would definitely have preferred the one cent to be copper rather than gold plated silver but I can live with it. The return of the penny!

The only other thing I would have preferred is double dating '1867-2017' rather than '1967-2017'. Not sure why the Mint would not commemorate 150 years of Canada rather than 50 years of the Colville designs, but again, I can live with that.

So the 7-coin proof set is a reproduce of the 1967 Centennial set? I understand this is a beautiful set. However, personally I won't purchase a copy set with zero creative effort.

This is valid point as well. The set isn't really cheap, but introduce nothing new from the design point of view. Some collectors will call the coins "replica" by giving to this negative touch.

However, RCM very creatively pushed more silver (hence purity change) to the same size coin

I'm also not a fan of replica coins, but the allure of this set for me (beyond the SD) is the opportunity to collect these great coin designs on coins struck as true proofs. The original sets from 1967 are often marketed as "proof" coins but they are not; the RCM did not have the equipment needed to produce true proof coins until 1981.

On a different note.

From the images seen on ebay, it appears that the cent is plated in yellow gold. The set's overall aesthetics might have been enhanced if the cent coin was plated in rose gold to give it a more copper-like color.

purity change?

In 1967, the ten-, twenty-five and fifty-cent coins, along with the dollar coin, were struck on planchets of 0.800 fine silver; the one-cent planchet was a mostly copper alloy and the five-cent planchet was 100% nickel.

In the current set, all of the coins are struck on planchets of 0.999 fine silver.

@Electrum:
regarding "rose gold" is this the wish, or RCM did it with 2017 Penny similar to 2012?

Im surprised they are using the 1967 effigy of the Queen as well, I do like it a lot more then the current one but I think it would be more appropriate to use the 2017 effigy.
