That is a great theory Buddy. I am not a gambling person so I didn't even think of that. edited: added the following I find this really interesting, had to do some googling about the coin slot machines and one of the articles was an old CCF post from 2008. Even in that time period most of the machine were all electronic (I know in the 70's & 80's and probably 90's that they were the norm so that would explain this scenario) just curious though why does the Mint still make the halves & dollars? About a month ago I used an SBA dollar at the local gas station, the cashier didn't even know what it was. She had never seen a dollar coin before - I truly had to convince her that it was real. So, considering the millions of coins that go around and around in those machines, I think it is reasonably possible to assume that's where you might find identical damage. Wow..Hadn't thought of that one. Could very well be. Whatever it is, it is getting put in a 2x2...just in case. |

Yeah, I'd keep it in a 2X2, too.
The slot machine idea is a flat out guess and there's always a chance there's a more interesting reason.

I was going to ask before but, since you posted that link showing one: can you get a low-angle closeup shot of the eye area from the southwest? It is difficult to see topography straight on. My journeyman opinion so far is against PMD. I think it's great that there is so much discussion concerning a very small thing! When our detail-oriented powers combine... A bi-level die crack would be a lot more interesting than slot machine damage.  |

Okay so I tried until my camera battery went dead and cannot get a clear photo at the angle needed to show topography. Comes out too blurry or I have to get so close it is unrecognizable...sorry guys.
